Swimming

Triathlon swimming is a sport of endurance over a certain distance. Those who are in triathlon swimming must go through hours of training in order to achieve a competitive time. By pacing the training the individual is able to advance the endurance level he or she is capable of.

Often times athletes competing will use their legs more and try to be careful to conserve the leg muscles as part of the endurance attempt. Some of these athletes who are in the triathlon swimming events alternate swimming strokes if this is possible to compensate several different issues. These issues can include turbulence, and aerated water. It also helps conserve energy that might be needed in the event of a long swim.

Most triathlon swimming is essentially done outdoors or in open-water. For this reason certain athletes will use what is called “dolphin kicking” to go against waves. Or body surfing to actually use a wave while preserving his or her energy.

Obviously swimming in open water means that the water will be cold or at least colder than an indoor arena. Therefore many of those who are in triathlon swimming events or meets wear a wetsuit. It is not mandatory really, however there are very few athletes who swim in open water without a wet suit. Not all wet suits are alike either. Some are sleeveless while others are cut at the knee, or stop at the knee. These are designed for warmer open water temperatures. Although some events do allow wetsuits regardless of water temperature in other triathlon swimming if the water is under a certain temperature the athlete is required to wear a wetsuit. The rules and restrictions do differ through a variety of events in triathlon swimming tournaments.

Those athletes who are triathlon swimmers do not simply decide one night to swim in a triathlon and the next day register. It takes weeks and weeks to prepare for such an event. The athlete trains in the water as well as out of the water. In all fairness the athletes even have nutritional diets they go by as well. Some have personal trainers while others simply do his or her training. But both way they train and they train vigorously.

For more information about triathlon swimming and the events or tournaments associated with triathlon swimming there are web sites via the Internet that can accommodate those who are interested. Some of these web sites offer rules and restrictions while other web sites offer information about training and nutrition. Various web sites also explain about the events and where they can be located. Ultimately, those who train and compete in triathlon swimming are well-toned athletes to say the least.
