Training for triathlon

Triathlon events

One important part of the games this year will be the triathlon events. This strenuous event is made up of a bicycling portion, a swimming portion, and a foot race. This year, the triathlon will be held at the Ming Tomb Reservoir. Men’s and women’s medals will be awarded, with the men’s triathlon beginning at 10 a.m. on August 18, and the women’s triathlon occurring at the same time on the next day.

Competitors will swim 1,500 meters, cycle for 40 kilometers, and then run 10 kilometers. This is an extremely difficult race that requires endurance, skill in each leg of the race, and the ability to conserve resources throughout it. Triathlons haven’t been around long, and began as a training exercise. However, they have now become an important segment of the Olympics.

Eight NOCs (National Olympic Committees) will be able to have a maximum of three athletes competing at the event, with all other NOCs being able to have only two athletes competing. The competition is arranged in part as a series of qualification races, from which the winners will run in the Olympic Games themselves.

The Olympic Triathon, also known as “international distance”, “standard course”, or “short course” triathlon, is an event that comprises of the following three events in succession:

Swimming (1.5 km/0.93 mile)

Cycling (40 km/24.8 miles)

Running (10km/6.2 miles)

Cycling

Triathlon cycling is one component of a triathlon event. In a triathlon, athletes who have great endurance and strength run, swim, and cycle in succession, typically without stopping, and attempt to do these activities in as short a total time as possible.
The cycling portion of a triathlon is the second portion, with running being last.

Running

The primary distinguishing feature of running in a triathlon is that it occurs after the athlete has already been exercising in two other disciplines for an extended period of time, so many muscles are already tired. The effect of switching from cycling to running can be profound; first-time triathletes are often astonished at the bizarre, [...]
